4.0 out of 5 stars Great Cordless Phone, May 21, 2011

I have had a GE cordless for several years. One of the handsets got ruined so I decided to get a new one with more handsets. I bought another GE it was aweful I couldn't hear the callers on any of the 4 handsets. I returned it.
I did some research and found that AT&T made a good cordless so I bought the CL82401. It has 4 handsets, intercom, push to talk, speakerphone all kinds of features, best of all the call quality is great.
The only thing I wish it had was a lit dial, for night time. But other than that it's a great phone especially for the price with 4 handsets.
I think the previous review was unfair, this phone is not advertised as a 2 line phone.

I purchased this phone system to replace an old digital Panasonic cordless phone. In short, this thing is a piece of junk. The voice quality from the handsets is far inferior to my older existing phones. The sound is fuzzy. I am amazed that anyone thinks it sounds clear. Maybe my particular unit has an issue, but I think this is just an example of how the quality of cordless phones is being downgraded, particularly with the ATT label. On the plus side, the features on the phone are good, and the answering machine has voice quality among the best I have heard on a digital home system. It is still not as good as the quality of voice mail messages, but quite acceptable. The quality of the unit is questionable. I purchased the unit as a newly released model, so it was not sitting on the store shelf long, and out of the box some of the battery packs would not charge. I discovered part of the issue was that three of the hand sets did not seem to charge the batteries. I returned...Read more

We're returning this set of phones, as their performance and design was disappointing, especially coming from AT&T. First, the call quality was mediocre at best; the reason people with cell phones still keep their land lines, these days, is to keep land line call quality. These phones negate that advantage. Also, the handset designers have clearly never read "The Design of Everyday Things" by Don Norman, as these phones have user interface bloopers galore. For instance, although the display and the numeric keypad are backlit, none of the other controls are. So when the phone rings at night, what's the one button you want to find? The one that lets you answer the call! Unfortunately, that button isn't backlit, and it's not even findable by feel-- e.g., the detent on the "F" and "J" keys on your computer keyboard. Cell phone users buy into the idea that they'll have to learn some unique quirks of their personal cell phones, but those devices typically have one primary user...Read more
