Rating this unit alone, I'd give it 5 stars... but as it works as part of the system that includes the phones... or should I say it HAS to work as part of that system... it loses some ground.
Some things you should know... I bought several of these to serve as a whole house intercom system and room monitors for the kids. Well, you can't do room monitoring between two of these, only from one of the phones to one of these... and the phone must be off the cradle, so it's draining it's battery all night. I got around that by turning the volume down on the baby's end and putting the two units into intercom. Works, but not ideal. Between each other, they are AWESOME intercoms. But when integrated with the phones, not so much. Between two of the boxes, you can call and start talking, if a phone is involved, it requires someone to walk over and push talk. I got 3 of these to go with the base system. We live in a bi-level home with kids upstairs and us downstairs. I didn't need handsets in the kids' rooms, just a means by which to communicate between floors. I've had these for a year now, and no problems with anything including reception, function, and reliability. :-)
