Comment: First off, let me say we didn't purchase this from Amazon.
Second, what we bought was the dual-handset version of this exact phone.
Third, we use Vonage for our phone service.
We replaced a 5.8GHz cordless phone set that we'd had for a few years because the handset batteries for that phone had died and were an unusual size and shape that we couldn't find to replace. Since the DECT 6.0 phones are supposed to be better for use in conjunction with 2.4GHz wireless networks, I figured that we couldn't go wrong. Comparing the features of a couple phones in the store, this phone seemed to be superior. The Google GOOG-411 feature seemed like it would be pretty cool.
From the moment we hooked the phone up, it's been nothing but static and overall poor call quality. Hooking up a corded phone shows that it's not the Vonage service, it's definitely the wireless connection between the handset and base.
The next problem we soon discovered is that the range on these phones is considerably smaller than we expected. The base unit is in the living room, roughly the center of the house, and the second handset is in the master bedroom, about 25 feet away, yet the second handset constantly loses connection with the home base. The only way to get it to recognize the base station again is to remove the battery for a few seconds and then replace it. The handset may remain registered for a few minutes or a few days, but ultimately gets lost again.
It's a shame to have spent about $70 on the dual-handset system, only to have to replace it again. We're currently researching our options for replacing these phones.
