GE - 5.8 GHZ EDGE Speakerphone w Digital Answering system with two handsets

Comment: Well i read the other reviews on here and i waited almost a year to make my review. I gave it five stars in everything but sound quality. I gave it four stars on sound quality because it occasionally does give static..that i dont hear but others do. Im not sure why...But its very rare. Other then that i cant complain. I love the features and 3 handsets for the price i got it. Good phone to me..a year later.

Comment: Despite others who have had a lesser experience, I have found this phone system to work quite nicely in my home. For the price it has the function and features I was looking for in a cordless speakerphone with digital answerer (especially the speakerphone in the cordless handset as well as remote access to the answerer with same handset). I have even added an optional third handset (it can handle up to four). From my perspective this is a recommended product.

Comment: Had we read the previous reviews we may not have considered this phone system. Main corded phone had no dial tone, returned phone directly to manufacturer and they made us pay for returning the defective phone. Been 4 weeks so far and we have not gotten any replacement yet.

Cannot rate the phone system itself since we have not been able to use it.

Comment: We bought this to replace an AT&T cordless system that suddenly died after eighteen months of light to moderate use. I was dubious about buying this phone, but my wife wanted one we could wall-mount in the kitchen.

The bottom line: This is a terrible product. The LCD panel on the base unit is hard to read at best, but when wall-mounted the display is barely readable unless you stoop to view it from below. The brightness of the readout varies from day to day, oddly; sometimes it isn't readable at all.

We might have been able to live with that (inertia is a powerful thing), but the reception on the two wireless phones is awful - conversations are interrupted by intermittent bursts of static even when standing ten feet from the base station.


There are far better phone systems out there for the same money. Avoid.

Comment: We've used VTech, Uniden, and AT&T cordless phones in the past and have been satisfied. The GE Edge is truly awful. The two cordless phones had extremely poor reception... we could barely hear calling in and out. The phone attached to the answering machine was the only good one but who wants to be tethered to the base?

Terrible product. We replaced it with a Uniden set.
