The answering system is accessible from each handset, as well as the base, and allows memo recording and messages to be forwarded to cell or office numbers. With subscription to local service, each handset is call waiting/caller ID compatible, storing up to 50 names and numbers of the most recent callers. Numbers can be stored, deleted or moved into the permanent phonebook with just a few clicks. Twenty-four selectable ringtones are available, and the base is wall mountable.
With the addition of four AAA batteries (not included), the system will continue to function during power outages. Motorola includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

However, I just could not get either of the 2 MD7081 units I tried to work right in my house. Along with many others, I had been awaiting a 5.8Ghz 2-line, expandable (more than 4 handsets) system that would not fight with my Netgear Wireless G WRT54GS Wi-Fi network. I have been barely tolerating the Siemens system for years, so I was ready for the relief from noise and garble promised by the 5.8 systems. Here were the 2 problems: without any doubt, when the MD7081 was powered up, it degraded the Wi-Fi performance horribly. And, line 1 rang on the handset only every other ring on one of my lines. If I switched the inputs, so that that the telephone was receiving the signal from my other line, it worked fine. And so did the "trouble" line ring ok on the handset position 2. This was so on both units I...Read more 31 of 32 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Motorola MD7081 5.8GHz Digital 2-line Phone (Office Product) I replaced all of the 'phones in my home with one base unit and 4 handsets. I love the fact that I can place a fully functional 'phone with access to both of my 'phone lines anywhere there's a electrical outlet. My 2nd 'phone line is wired only to my home office, so I placed the base unit there and now I can pick up the 2nd line anywhere in my home.
Some pros: * Every handset ringer can be customized. The 'phones have a ring schedule feature that allows one to set the "day volume" and "night volume" on each line on each handset. One can set the time that the "day" and "night" volumes start. * The answering system also provides a "day" and "night" outgoing message for each line. * Reception is incredible. It sounds like I'm on a wired 'phone even in my back yard. * The "shared phone book" is a wonderful feature. Once one adds a contact to the shared book, it's available on all of the handsets immediately. * Each handset also has a "private...Read more 36 of 39 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: Motorola MD7081 5.8GHz Digital 2-line Phone (Office Product) After reading every review on every 5.8 GHz 2-line system available at Amazon and hearing the not-so-glowing reports on the audio quality of the first Motorola 5.8 GHz 2-line systems, I was a little bit hesitant to purchase this. But it has all the features I need and this is their second chance so I figured they'd fix the problems. If you were holding off purchasing this until someone reports on the audio quality, well here it is in one word: FANTASTIC. No hum, no buzz, no garbled audio. Just crystal clear sound even with both lines going at once. I'm stretching the incoming signal a bit as I have two Lingo VoIP boxes merged to one very old and rather long phone cord going into the MD7081. Still, dead silence when I am not talking. It is so quiet that my first few callers thought I left the phone when I was just not talking (while jotting down what they had said). The come in loud and clear. One caller even mentioned how natural my outgoing message sounded...Read more |
