The Siemens Gigaset E450 DECT 6.0 digital cordless phone system was developed with durability and versatility in mind. DECT 6.0 technology provides interference-free communication, brilliant voice quality, and enhanced security. Ideal for families with little kids or for on-site construction offices, the handsets come with great features such as water, dust, and shock resistance. The system can be expanded to include up to six handsets, ensuring everyone in the office has access to a phone or everyone in the house can talk to grandma when she calls home to swap stories about her Norwegian vacation.

The handset comes with a six-line, easy-to-read full-color 128x128 display. The screen relays useful information such as call history, current date and time, and last call length. With the robust display and the easy-to-use keypad, users can even send SMS text messages and send emails via SMS (both carrier dependent). To make texting easy, the handset comes with an easy text entry program--an ideal feature for heavy text users. For added convenience, the system supports up to three separate SMS inboxes (carrier dependent). The handsets come with five pre-loaded ringtones and a bright LED light to notify of incoming calls.

The system also features a room monitoring function so you can easily keep an ear on your children when they should be sound asleep. Additionally, thanks to the Gigaset E450's hands-free function, you can make a call when preparing a meal or type an email while on a conference call. Up to 150 numbers can be entered in the telephone directory, enough for the whole family and all of your children's best friends. Other great features include VoIP capabilities, and a robust 50-meter indoor (300 metera when outdoors) cordless range. Featuring multi-lingual menu prompts (in 19 languages), the handset features battery strength to support up to 12 hours of talk time and up to 160 hours of standby time.

This is a great phone except for one major problem: it has no mute. The advertisements say it has mute and the user guide says it has mute, but what they call "mute" is really "hold". If you use the mute function, you'll hear beeps and everyone else will hear music. You can turn off the music, but you still can't hear what anyone else on the call is saying, so it's useless for conference calls.

This was important enough for me to return the product.

I got one of these after careful review.. wanted a DECT phone that wouldn't interfere with my wireless networks and could eventually support a wireless headset (similar to a bluetooth set, only DECT). Clarity and range are excellent, and it is a sleek, well constructed phone. The menu system is a bit slow, but not terribly so.

I knocked off 2 stars for a more significant problem: Whenever someone picks up another extension, the E450 automatically disconnects, by design. Apparently its some kind of security feature that might work well if -all- my phones were Siemens DECT phones, as you can enable/disable the security feature (called 'Listen In') if you like. But I don't plan on buying any more handsets unless they are dirt cheap since we have older cordless phones that work well.

All in all I still like the E450 but it's not meant for use with other model phones on the same line, due to the disconnect issue. If there's no one else home to pick up another...Read more

This phone is great, the speakerphone is so much better than any other phone I've had, and it's very easy to use. The color display is really neat. We have cable internet and use Lingo for VOIP, and it's never been a problem. So far it's as good as a phone can get. The only bad thing about it is that the clock tends to be a little slow, and every month or so I notice that it's 3 or 4 minutes behind, but other than that I'm really happy with it.
