This accessory phone pairs perfectly with the D2280 series phones. You can expand your D2280 series up to 12 handsets and use them throughout your house. The series has a digital answering system with message manager and live talk speakerphone. It comes with the unsurpassed DECT6.0 voice clarity, security and range. Since it has eco mode, you'll have up to 7 hours continuous talk time. Need some peace and quiet? You can turn off all the ringers with the silent mode button. The phone will store up to 50 names and number from your caller ID and will hold 200 names and numbers in your phone book. Do you have a pesky caller? You can block up to 20 numbers so they don't ever call again. This phone is compatible with the DRX100 range extender if you need some more distance while you talk. The display, owners manuals and voice prompts can be set to English, Spanish and French. You also have the ability to push mute or hold from the handsets, intercom between the handsets and see if there's a voice mail waiting for you with a blinking light on the handset. A headset jack and belt clip is possible on this handset as well.

Pros:
signal strength (signal went through difficult parts of house, strong in basement)
screen (clear, bright)
weight (much lighter than our previous cordless phones from Uniden)
form (unusual but usable shape and size)
automatic base detection, line detection, and handset numbering

Cons:
audio quality
- static at start and end of words while on speaker phone
- clipping of words reduce intelligibility
- some people on the other end couldn't even understand all the words we said
- ECO mode seemed to reduce audio quality (not surprising, but there doesn't seem to be a way to disable ECO mode)
Minor annoyances:
very tall phone can be easily knocked out of charging stand
not intuitive how to go "back" when in menus

I need this thing for work and can't afford to miss what other people are saying in telecons. I really can't afford to have my words missed, either. One person I called didn't even want to...Read more

I bought a D1685-3 that would not keep time. It would lose variable amounts of time for unknown reasons. Uniden sent a replacement D1685 that exhibited the same problem. Uniden then sent me a D2280-3 replacement. It lost 42 minutes the day after I set it up. I reset the time, and it lost another 4 hours that evening. Three days later, the D2280 is 40 hours and 12 minutes behind. Internet searches revealed over a hundred complaints about multiple Uniden models not keeping time. Uniden knows that the problem is widespread, but it cannot or will not provide replacement phones that keep time.

Uniden will not issue a refund for phones purchased from Amazon.com or any other vendor. Uniden's customer service and warranty departments are swamped with calls: my three calls kept me on the line for 45, 42, and 77 minutes.
