Before testing the Uniden EXS9966, we charged it for the recommended 15 to 20 hours, which is longer than most rechargeable batteries require. A spare handset battery (not included) can be charged in the base. A laminated quick guide is included for convenient reference to basic phone operations.
In our tests of the Uniden EXS9966, we were able to take the phone outside over 700 feet from the base before detecting any voice breakup. Although the range was impressive, we did notice a slight background humming even at close range, but it wasn't excessively distracting. We were able to take the phone behind walls and near electronic equipment without losing signal strength.
With the additional keypad on the base, the handset and the base can be used at the same time on separate lines. If the handset is already in use on one line, you can use the base station to make or receive calls on the other line. Indicators let you know which line is in use. The controls that operate these features are intuitive. The sturdy handset has a lighted keypad and LCD. The conference and intercom buttons allow you to add a third or fourth party to a conversation. To add a party to line one, press the hold button, press the line two button, and dial the number of the person you want to include. To bring the first person back into the conversation, press the conference button. A fourth person, at either the handset or base, can also join your conversation.
You can store up to 40 speed-dial numbers in memory. We were easily able to store a number using the LCD and arrow keys on the handset. To dial a stored number, we pressed the memory button, found the number on the LCD, and selected a line. The handset's LCD also provides caller ID information, if you subscribe to caller ID or caller ID with call waiting. You can position the handset faceup on the base for convenient caller identification on both lines. The EXS9966 also has a generous 80-number caller ID log. --Emily Bakko

Cons:
The EXS9966 features an 80-number caller ID memory with a three-line, 16-character easy-to-read display on the handset that makes it simple to browse names and numbers stored in memory. Additional convenience features include call waiting, 40-number memory dialing, speakerphone, and a dual keypad that allows you to dial your call from either the handset or the base. The base is equipped with a compartment for charging an optional extra battery for the handset.
The Uniden EXS9966 comes with a handset, the base, a belt clip, long and short telephone cords, AC adapter, a rechargeable battery, a wall mounting bracket, and a user manual.

This review is from: Uniden EXS9966 900-MHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product) The Uniden EXS 9966 is a great phone at a great price. Before I purchased it, I read the reviews from other customers. They were quite helpful in my decision-making process as most everyone thought it was a good phone. In one review, the reviewer identified as "An electronics fan from Mercer Island, Washington" wrote, "The only bad thing is, when you receive a phone call on this phone, another phone cannot be used to answer (e.g. call is for somebody in another part of the home). Likewise, when another phone is used to answer a call, this phone cannot be used to pick up." This statement turns out to be false. I have used this phone extensively transferring from one phone to another without a problem. A couple things are different from the Uniden 900MHz digital phone it was replacing. First, when a line is in use and you press the line button (Line 1 or Line 2), if the line is already in use, you hear three beeps and the LCD display indicates the...Read more 85 of 86 people found the following review helpful: By mister_t42 (Andover, MA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Uniden EXS9966 900-MHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product) After having used six different cordless 2 line phones, I finally found one that deserves a top rating. Excellent sound clarity, useful features, and none of the classic cordless annoyances that typically bug you.Buy an extra battery and you can uyse this phone in a power outage, as the base will run off the spare battery. With a keypad and speaker phone on the base, you can even operate when you've left the handset in the other room. The handset includes all the top end features that I would want: caller id, caller-id with call waiting, speed dialing, redial (yep, some cordless phone forget that feature), and conmference calling where you can connect line 1 and line 2 together in a single call. A very nice feature is that the caller-id lists are kept seperately, one for line 1 and another for line 2. In my household my wife gets calls on line 1 and I get calls on line 2; this way I do not have to scroll through her calls to see who called me. Finally, a word on clarity...Read more 34 of 34 people found the following review helpful: By A Customer This review is from: Uniden EXS9966 900-MHz DSS 2-Line Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product) This phone works really well - I have had no problems. One of the reviews above states that the phone cannot be used to answer calls picked up 1st by another phone or vice versa. This is not true. Hold the button a little longer to answer on a "line in use". Just a feature to keep you from jumping in on someone accidentally.Have no fear - buy it. |
