The distance I wanted covered was 110 steps from the base to the other phone; I guess good 40 - 50 yards. The location is in between town houses therefore there was lot of blockage of the signal. I initially bought Uniden DECT 1580 but it still gave crackling interference. Then I got this phone 3380 system. I bought 2 of them, registered both repeaters to the home base and it worked. It coverd the distance.

Handsets are nice and small, except the back light could be bit brighter.
I suggest if you need another handset or repeater, just buy 2 system. U will be paying maybe 20 more but you will have extra base.

I went through three different sets of phones before buying these. I have a 2,000 sq ft house and I was having issues with static , echo and hollow noise on all the new phones I bought. I bought these with the additional range base which I was thrilled to try and use. The phones themselves are great with reception, however the time resets every night at midnight back to midnight and stays there all day ( like when I wake up at 7 am the phones are still at 12 am ) . So everyday I have to reset the phones. This to me is a very annoying flaw. These phones otherwise are sturdy and very nice and very affordable. I bought three sets of these phones ( 2 from Best Buy and 1 set from Amazon ) hoping I just got one defective set, but all three sets did the same thing. I tried reseting the handsets and nothing worked. Calling uniden was totally pointless as well. This for me is a deal breaker and they'll be going back. Unlike most Uniden phones, the 3380 has a unified phonebook. This means the same phonebook is shared among all handsets.

There are seven ringtones:
1) Flicker is a piercing ring that will wake the dead
2) Clatter is a more moderate ring
3) Wake Up is mostly moderate with a few piercing notes thrown in
4) Elise, melody
5) Aura Lee, melody
6) Beethoven Ode to Joy, melody
7) We Wish you a Merry Christmas, melody

Had to subtract a star because previous Uniden phones had a much wider selection of ringtones. We especially miss the melody "Call me Sweetheart" from our previous Uniden phone which is great for assigning to your sweetheart. Everyone has a sweetheart, right?

The base unit has a rather piercing beep ringtone which cannot be changed, but you can turn its volume down to zero if you like to eliminate it. You can still hear the call screening (optional) etc even if you turn the ringer volume off.
