Vtech 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Answering System and Caller ID

Amazon.com Product Review

The Vtech CS5121 Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System and Caller ID operates on the enhanced 5.8 GHz frequency for clear reception that won't interfere with WiFi networks in your home. The handset features a large, lighted display that makes for easy viewing. The CS5121 is caller ID/call waiting compatible, which tells you the name, number, time and date of incoming calls, even when you're already on the phone. It stores the information of the last 45 callers. The phone has a phonebook directory that stores 20 names and numbers which can be dialed with the touch of a button. There are also nine speed dial presets and an indicator alerting you of a waiting voicemail.

The Vtech CS5121 has a built-in digital answering system that has 15 minutes of recording time. With an all-digital design, there are no tapes to mess with, and you can easily jump from one message to another without any wait. With remote message retrieval, you can call in from anywhere to get your messages. A backlit message counter clearly shows you how many messages you've received. Users can choose from a set of ringtones to personalize their phone. The handset fits comfortably in the hand and the phone includes a wall mount bracket for placement options.

I have owned this phone for 6 months and have hated every minute of it.
The phone has a noticeable lag/delay when dialing a number. You press the number and then a second and a half later it registers. The phone has frequent clicking and electronic buzzing sounds that are uncorrected by changing the channel. The answering machine is awful and 99% useless. It will record your calls but you can not understand the majority of them. Do not buy this phone. You can get a better phone that includes shared directory and intercom for about the same price.

Stay away from this model. The answering machine does not like cellphones and often records noise instead of the message. The handset was unable to place calls after less than one year. Still looking for a phone that will last...

This is the worst phone I've ever had. The volume of the answering system was too low from the outset, and after a few days it stopped recording messages altogether. And a few days later, the handset was no longer able to place a call.

This was the second unit I had to return. I thought I was unlucky the first time, since I've been very happy with my other V-Tech phone, the i6725 (without an answering machine, and discontinued, unfortunately, but still available here and there on clearance). That device has a better grade of handset, with a speaker-phone function and a volume control on the side. So I would stay away from V-Tech phones that don't have those features.
