First, the general layout of the buttons could use some improvement. For example, when you try to cradle it between your head and shoulder, it's almost impossible not to hit the mute button. Second, and much worse, the phones don't always connect to the base when you try to answer an incoming call. I've reprogrammed the handsets to the base 4 times now, and still the same thing happens---the phone rings, I try to answer it, it beeps and the screen says "unable to connect". Good thing I have caller ID, so I can call these people back! Third and most annoying is the customer service department. If they know of a way to fix this problem I'll never be able to find it as all I can get are pre-recorded messages. I even tried to e-mail their tech-support and got a pre-fab reply that didn't even relate to the problem I was having. Can't say that I'd recomend this phone to anyone. 6 of 6 people found the following review helpful: By Chess Enthusiast (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews This review is from: V-Tech VT-i5855 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Phone System with Dual Display CID and Speakerphone (Office Product) I've owned this set for nearly a year now, and I am pleased with this product.
Sure, there is the newer version with the color screen phones, but I don't need too many gadets. As it stands, there are many features that I am aware of which I will never program into the phones. Sound reception is very good, and I have never had a problem connecting to the base unless I neglected a phone and let it really run it's battery dry. Registering with the base didn't seem difficult, but it's been too long since I did it, so my memory of it is vague. Overall it is a strong product, and much, MUCH, better than the previous system it replaced. I also bought a few extra handsets, but nothing much to talk about there. The extra handsets are identical in every way to the ones that come with the set. All handsets have an option to ring directly to another handset or ring to all handsets, which provides a useful intercom-like system, and keeps me from yelling...Read more 4 of 4 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: V-Tech VT-i5855 5.8 GHz DSS Expandable Phone System with Dual Display CID and Speakerphone (Office Product) Do not waste your money on this phone!!. I recently purchased this phone to replace my Vtech 2431 which was a 2.4 Ghz phone. I recently setup a Wireless 802.11-G network and there was too much interference between my Wireless Acces Point and the phone. In reading the description on this phone I noticed they mentioned that I should have no problems with the wireless network. This was totally not the case!! The phone consistently loses connection to the base whenever I start to stream music wirelessly to my DLink DSM-320 Medial Lounge. I called Vtech support complaining about this and the rep let me know that this phone only uses 5.8 ghz from the base to the handset, for the return leg from the handset back to the base it uses 2.4 ghz and that is why I'm still experiencing interference. The rep went on to tell me that there are only 2 models that Vtech manufactures which use 5.8 ghz for both legs the 5871 and the 5858. I felt totally cheated in purchasing this product!! The...Read more |
