The 40-2421 utilizes 2.4 GHz digital spread spectrum technology, which provides clearer reception over larger distances than traditional cordless phones operating on lower bands and transmitting an analog signal. Call-waiting and caller ID compatible, the phone stores up to 50 numbers in memory, while the speed dial feature lets you quickly dial the 20 most frequently used numbers. A headset jack and handset speakerphone offer comfortable hands-free options.
Handset and ringer volume controls are provided, as are both tone and pulse dialing modes. With the auto pick-up setting turned on, you can answer calls simply by removing the handset from its cradle. A visual voicemail message indicator alerts you when you have messages waiting. (Voicemail, call waiting, and caller ID require subscriptions through your local phone company.) The 40-2421 comes backed by a one-year limited warranty on both parts and labor.

Unfortunately this system appears to have been designed by a completely different team. The handsets are very large (too large to fit into a pocket), the menus are more difficult to use, the speed-dial feature is extremely clumsy, and the signal quality is very poor, with lots of hissing in the background. We've sent this one back and replaced it with a two-line VTech 20-2431 system, which is much more like the original 2431 and doesn't suffer from the problems of the 40-2421 series. 20 of 22 people found the following review helpful: By Fred (Menlo Park, CA United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: VTech 40-2421 2.4 GHz DSS 4-Line Expandable Cordless Phone with Caller ID (Office Product) We've been very happy with our VTech 2431 single-line 2.4MHzphone system for the past few years, so now that we have three lines this looked like just the right thing. First I like V-Tech because their battery life is longer. I've bought non-brandname batteries, when I could no longer get them from V-Tech, and in the V-Tech phone, they just last longer than all the other 2.4 GHz phones I've used. (I used to live 2 clocks from Fry's electronics, and tried ALL the 2.4 gigahertz phones they carried that (a) took a headset and (b) had a mute button on the handset. Also, this is one of the few phones, and few V-Tech phones, that still has a MUTE button on the handset! (just just on the control box...who wants to walk back to their desk to clear their throat?) No need to have phone plugs established in every room! Yay! Wherever you have electricity, within a reasonable distance from the base unit, this phone works! I prefer buying my own wraparound headsets, even though they seem to come in these boxes now. By the way, use only the...Read more |
